Giddy up little horsie, giddy up, woah

So... I have been up to some interesting things lately... It took my family a long time to believe me and some of my friends who have found out what I have been doing have said things like, "I feel like I don't know you anymore"... Don't worry, I am still my girly me who likes makeup, doing hair, and chick flicks. But I have started a new adventure... :)

A couple of months ago, I started going to my friends barn that she and her fiance lease and board and train horses. I started riding with them and fell in love with it. My only horse experience I ever really had was once a year when we went to Canada to visit my grandma and grandpa on the farm, but it had still been about 11 years since I had been on a horse. I learned to trot and lope within my first day of riding with them, and I kept coming back. It was kind of fun to be a cowgirl and ride all those pretty horses.

This is my friends 4th year on the USU Equestrian team, and her fiance is the coach. So after a lot of bugging, and begging, and convincing, they finally got me to try out for the team. I thought that there was no way in the world I would actually make it. I mean, come on, I don't do things like this. But I beat out 4 other people and secured a spot on the team. CRAZY? YES! I really didn't think he would let me on... but he said I have a really good seat and am a natural rider. So after a bit of freaking out I called my mom and told her the news, she kept saying to me, "Rachel, its not April fools day". I decided what the heck, I am going to step out of my little box and do something different, when in my head I was thinking, who in their right mind at 25 years old and in their senior year of college who already works 40+ hours a week decides, hey I am going to join the equestrian team? Well, that would me, why not add one more thing to my insane life?

I wanted to go home and cry after the first practice, I have NEVER been on any kind of team or had any kind of coach, unless you count my choir teacher.... so It was a completely new experience for me, and unlike most of the people on the team, I didn't grow up around horses and competing in horse shows my whole life. But I decided, to give it a shot and keep on trying. the second practice went MUCH better and the next day we were on the road headed to our first show... YIKES!!!!!

We show for IHSA in Western showmanship riding. We are the only school in Utah with a team so our region is Idaho and Montana. We are judged on how we are sitting, where our legs, feet, and hands are, our posture and so on. And then on how well we can control the horse and do what we are told. I am not that competitive of a person, so this is so weird for me.

Our first show was just this last weekend at UMW (University of Montana Western) in Dillon. We left Logan on Friday afternoon and got there that evening. There were 2 English riding shows on Saturday, so we watched and supported them. Then on Sunday was the show for the western team.

So we have to be completely decked out. Bedazzled shirts, belt buckles, boots, hats, chaps and all. (by the way, I LOVE my boots, they are black and pink!) So these are some pictures of me before and during.... warning to all, I look like a hippo trying to disguise herself as a snake... it is bad, but oh well... I could barely walk the chaps were so tight, and getting on the horse, well, lets say it was a darn good thing they had mounting blocks cuz I could barely move my legs!

This is me with a couple of my teammates. Aren't our outfits um... interesting? We have to have our hair pinned back so that nothing is moving, I think I would have looked a lot better if my hair was down. But this is me all decked out and ready to go. weird huh? Never thought I would be seen in something like this!!

These are a a couple pictures of me riding...
You can kind of see my boots in this picture! Here is a better picture. Aren't they beautiful??

So yeah, that is what is going on with me.... pretty crazy but really fun!

Utah State...

How may I direct your call?

So I have a new job... the USU switchboard. It is actually quite fun and you hear all sorts of interesting names. One of my favorites is Glasscoffin. Yes isn't lovely? The best is when you are trying to answer without laughing. It doesn't help when the person you are working with starts singing a funny song in a weird voice that makes you laugh right when you say "Utah State University, how may I direct your call?".
Things can also start getting interesting when you have been sitting here for 8 hours and you are getting a little tired. Sometimes your fingers forget how to type, or you completely missed what the person was saying because you momentarily spaced out (not that this has ever happened to me...). My favorite is when I accidentally answered, "I.T. Service Desk, my name is... I mean Utah State...". Yeah that was only slightly embarrassing. I also sometimes can only think of "Studio 170, Salon and Spa". Luckily I haven't slipped and actually said that one yet. That's my other job.
Other than that, it is great because I will be able to do my homework when school starts while I am here. SCORE!!! This will probably be my last official college job. Weird. I only have one more year and so I will hopefully graduate in MAY! Finally! But then I have to figure out what I am going to do with the rest of my life from there, so I guess I will just keep answering "Utah State University, how may I direct your Call?"

My House!

In May I moved into the cutest little house! I love it! It is nice to be out of an apartment and to have a yard. I feel like a real person, haha! It has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 living rooms, laundry room and a massive storage room. I only have pictures of the upstairs because that is all I really use. The Pictures loaded backwards too... so oh well. Take a tour from the inside out!

This is my bedroom. It has a huge closet that fits all of my shoes :) It also has 2 large windows so it is really nice and bright!
My cute polka dot bathroom... can you get any better?
Part of the tiny kitchen.... on the other side there is the stove and fridge, and that is it! I guess it is a good thing I don't really cook!
A little dining room. the house came with the table. It is great!
these are a couple of different views of the living room. The couches came with the house and they are really nice (for college housing!).

I planted flowers, and... THEY ARE STILL ALIVE!!! They have filled up the whole flower bed now and are really pretty. I am terrified of worms though, so it was an interesting experience...
This is the front of the house. There are some cute flower pots on the front steps now making it more cheery. There is also a huge backyard that has been nice this summer. If you are ever in Logan come and visit me!

Panic...

I think I am having a panic attack... I am all alone and I need to tell someone, so I will tell the blogging world.... Pathetic I know... I just looked at the requirements for my summer online classes, and I started freaking out. What am I doing? I hate school, I am sick of Logan, and I need to get away. My head is getting foggy, and it is getting harder to breath... I don't think I can do this. Anyways, that is my little bit of panic....

Hopelss Romanitc....

I could not sleep last night, so I decided to watch some T.V. and when I turned it on, it was the Royal Wedding! Wahoo. I ended watching from 2am until 5am. Ooops, I think I might be kind of tired later on today! But it was worth it. It was kind of cool to watch it live and see everything as it is really happening. It was BEAUTIFUL! But lets face it, I knew once I started watching there, was no stopping. I am a hopeless romantic, and so to see a REAL royal wedding and not just what they show in the movies was really neat!

Isn't her dress AMAZING??!! I loved it! I think it is so sleek and classy while still being royal!
I missed this part. DANG IT! I made myself go to bed when the ceremony ended around 5am, so I missed the carraige ride, and the kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. I guess I will have to find it online and watch it later!

Anyways, I just think she is a really classy lady and way to go to her for making the dream of every little girl come true for her!

I know this is all really cheesy, but I had fun!
